Why Say Yes to Housing: Featuring Senator Scott Wiener

On Friday, April 5th, the Santa Cruz County Business Council, Santa Cruz YIMBY, and the Monterey Bay Economic Partnership hosted Senator Scott Wiener at the Peace United Church to discuss housing at the state level.

Senator Wiener, who represents San Francisco and San Mateo County, also gave an overview about his SB 50 bill (which we have previously covered here). He explained the coauthors of the bill consisted of, “A broad cross section of the legislature ranging from some of the most lefty democrats to the most conservative republicans, because housing is not a partisan issue”. The Santa Cruz County Business council has voted to endorse SB50, and the bill also includes a wide range of supporters from a variety of mayors and other organizations all across California.

SB 50 passed in the Senate Housing Committee on April 2nd with a vote of 9-1 and next will head to the Senate Governance and Finance Committee in the upcoming weeks.
