BUSINESS COUNCIL ENDORSES MEASURE D
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The Santa Cruz County Business Council (SCCBC) has voted to “reaffirm its support of Greenway’s concept to build a ‘multi-use, contiguous trail, with separate pedestrian and bike lanes, down the center of the corridor with a ‘railbanking’ provision to preserve future transportation options’ and to endorse Measure D on the June 2022 ballot.”
In June of 2017, the SCCBC Board of Directors voted to endorse the building of a “multi-use, contiguous trail, with separate pedestrian and bike lanes, down the center of the corridor” over the potential future option of having an active rail line, and bike and pedestrian pathway together. On April 21, 2022, the Board welcomed representatives from the Greenway and No on Greenway campaigns who made their arguments to either support or oppose Measure D.
After hearing from and posing questions to both sides and deliberating in a closed session, the Santa Cruz County Business Council Board of Directors voted to reaffirm its support of Greenway’s proposal and Measure D, with 78 percent of present and voting Board Members favoring the bike and pedestrian only vision for the rail corridor. The SCCBC has served as the voice of the local business community for over 25 years, and represents 53 of the largest employers in Santa Cruz County. You can learn more at www.sccbusinesscouncil.com
