Downtown Streets Team Presentation to SCCBC Committees

The following is the slideshow presentation that was given to the Government Affairs and Infrastructure & Transportation Committees of the Santa Cruz County Business Council on June 14th by Greg Pensinger and Chris Richardson of the Downtown Streets Team.

The program is essentially a workforce development program aimed at addressing those experiencing homelessness within individual communities. Clients are paid in stipends, vouchers, food credits, etc. to clean and beautify City streets and parks. This helps provide structure and dignity to those serving in the program, while also providing them other opportunities to access services and support. From their website:

“We believe that treating people with dignity and empowering them to be a part of the solution to their struggles is a major factor in their ultimate success. Our approach is unique in that we not only challenge Team Members to take an active role in their own recovery but we also empower them to create long-term solutions for their peers. By having the opportunity to tell their stories at schools, churches, social organizations, and business associations, our Team Members are changing perceptions about homelessness in their communities.”  – Downtown Streets Team
