Contact: Joe Foster, Executive Director, SCCBC
Please join us Monday, August 11th as the Santa Cruz County Business Council, San Lorenzo Valley Chamber of Commerce, Felton Business Association, Boulder Creek Business Association and the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce co-host a morning “study session” to discuss the County of Santa Cruz’s draft Economic Vitality Strategy (EVS) at Satellite Telework Center (6265 Hwy. 9, Felton) from 8:00 AM – 9:15 AM. The purpose of this session will be to gather feedback from the local business community regarding industry specific needs and concerns, which will be utilized in forming a collective response to the EVS. The County is accepting public comments on the EVS until close of business on Friday, August 15th.
EVS overview information on the County’s website
The EVS, the first countywide economic plan developed since 1994, encompasses 105 recommendations and is organized around seven (7) core goals:
- Create Shared Vision and Organize for Action
- Support Sustainable Development and Availability of Housing
- Strengthen Key Economic Sectors — Agriculture, Health, Education and Leisure & Hospitality
- Enhance Opportunities for Emerging Sectors of Technology and The Arts, and Support Small Business
- Expand Public Sector Capacity & Infrastructure
- Revitalize and Strengthen Town Centers and Commercial Areas
- Promote Santa Cruz County to Local, Regional, State, National & Global Market
The “study session” will begin with an overview of the EVS presented by Barbara Mason, County economic development coordinator, followed by a Q&A session and a discussion amongst those in attendance.
The primary goal of the session is to prioritize (and document) which EVS recommendations are most actionable, while addressing potential concerns and defining partnerships for implementation. The EVS as a whole represents a broad range of potential ideas that affect all industry groups, meaning that stakeholder feedback will be essential for distilling these ideas into actionable measures that can be adopted by the Board of Supervisor when it comes before them for approval in mid-September 2014.
We hope you join us to discuss this important piece of public policy will have wide-ranging implications for the countywide economy. Coffee and light refreshments will be served. There is no charge to attend. PLEASE RSVP TO INFO@SCCBUSINESSCOUNCIL.COM.
