What We Do
We are often asked, “how would you best describe the role of SCCBC in supporting the county-wide business community?” An excellent question that can be summed up by the these three (3) key functions that are coordinated through our three (3) working committees and overseen by our entire membership:
1. Advance policy issues of importance to the Santa Cruz County business community
We are actively involved in issues related to economic development, water, transportation infrastructure, and others of importance to employers throughout the County.
2. Develop and maintain relationships with local elected officials and public administrators
SCCBC places a great deal of emphasis on culitvating meaningful relationships between private- and public-sector leadership in an effort to build consensus that enhances community vitality. In 2014, local elected officials and public administrators from the following jurisdictions/offices have directly engaged with SCCBC in policy discussions directly impacting the local business community:
- County of Santa Cruz
- City of Santa Cruz
- City of Watsonville
- City of Capitola
- City of Scotts Valley
- Soquel Creek Water District
- San Lorenzo Valley Water District
- State Assemblymember Mark Stone
- State Senator Bill Monning
- Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission
3. Build strong working relationships between Santa Cruz County executives and business owners
As the only countywide business group representing multiple industry sectors in Santa Cruz County, SCCBC members have the unique opportunity to come together with their peers on local issues impacting the countywide economic climate.
